3d jewelry designers outdone by software?

3d jewelry design software producers are pushing their newest creation to jewelry stores, but that will not replace the artist, i.e. the jewelry designer.

Jewelry stores are being swamped with the notion that custom jewelry is the in thing and regular stock jewelry is out. The story is that store stock is not necessary anymore and a customer only wants to see virtual inventory that can be created in desktop or touch screen computers where they can be integrally involved in the design on the jewelry store counter. It stands to reason that the next planned step in a further generation of such software is that the jeweler becomes obsolete. There would be next generation software becoming available on the internet for one and all to utilize that would allow anyone to design his/her own jewelry virtually.

Everybody will become a quasi CAD designer and design jewelry from scratch. Not so fast!

It is still very difficult to learn these software; most jewelers do not want to spent the time necessary to learn something that intricate. Once they realize the whole plan, they won't invest into something that has the potential to eliminate their craft and make sales-people out of them. The savvy jeweler realizes that if he gets involved in the scheme, he will eventually not be needed anymore. That would leave the provider to cash in on the complete cashing from design to finishing of a jewelry piece, leaving only sales-commission for the actual vendor, the jeweler. The jeweler is reduced to be a sales-person only. Most jewelers are proud people taking pride in the knowledge that they have gained through years of experience in the design and manufacturing field. For expert advice in design, they would turn to a designer who nowadays designs in 3d.

Another area of concern to the software producers should be the part libraries of the design software. These will have to be continuously be expanding to a point that they will become incomprehensible even for learned jewelers. Such evolution in complexity will eventually lead to the complete bypass of jewelry manufacturers and jewelry stores, since the end-client would be able to design jewelry pieces himself and place an order on the internet to the software provider who would have the jewelry piece produced and shipped directly to the client's door.

The CAD jewelry designer does not need to worry. Real experienced jewelry designers consider in their designs the complexities of manufacturing so that a piece can be manufactured and finished in the most economical fashion. Jewelry sales clerks do not have that understanding. Jewelry designers have the know-how to create exceptional exclusive pieces that customers are looking for when they ask for custom design. In the field of jewelry, it is not easy to be a designer producing outstanding designs on a constant basis. No software piece by piece application can replaced the 3d jewelry designer.

Will 3d jewelry designers be obsolete soon?

The new 3d jewelry design software flogged to jewelry stores and jewelers will not eliminate the artist, the jewelry designer.

The marketing blitz is on and jewelry stores are being inundated with the idea that custom jewelry is in and stock jewelry is out. The scheme being spread is that store stock is not necessary anymore and a customer can be served by virtual inventory that can be created in desktop or touch screen computers on the store counter. The next logical step in the evolution of such software is that the jeweler is not needed anymore, since there will be next generation software available on the internet for everybody to use with which one can build his/her own jewelry virtually. Everybody will be able to build Lego jewelry.

This speaks against the plot:

The learning curve for these software is too steep still, and most jewelers do not want to spent time learning something new. For sure they won't invest into something that has the potential to eliminate their craft and make sales personnel out of them. The smart jeweler realizes that if he propagates the scheme, he is not needed anymore leaving the provider to cash all the profit centers involved in jewelry manufacturing. The jeweler is relegated to the very end of the process to scratch out a living depending how good a salesperson he is.

The part libraries will continuously be expanded until they become incomprehensible even for jewelers. This will eventually lead to the complete bypass of jewelry manufacturers and jewelry stores as the end-client can design himself and place an order on the internet for direct shipment to the client's door.

The 3d jewelry designer need not to worry. True jewelry designers take into account the complexities of manufacturing so that a piece can be manufactured and finished in the most economical fashion. Sales clerks do not have that knowledge. By using small parts and sticking them together, no designer one becomes.

3dbull extends services of custom jewelry design nationwide

Montreal, Quebec, Canada, 01/05/2010 - 3dbull extends services of custom jewelry design nationwide.

3dbull.com announced today that it has enlarged upon their services by including 3d custom jewelry design into their palette of services.

Jewelers and jewelry manufacturers can now provide 3dbull with their design idea, drawing or picture and 3dbull CAD design staff will custom design the 3dmodel. The jewelers may request a rendering of the design to be shown to their clients prior to manufacturing of the jewelry piece. 3dbull accepts these design enquiries by email, fax or online-request. The 3dbull.com internet site has an easy 'how it works' explanation that guides clients through the process.
Not only can customers now shop from an existing platform catalog at 3dbull.com, but jewelers now have the option to get professional 3d designers to create their or their client's ideas in 3 dimensional format and have the possibility of getting a rendering of the design that they can discuss with their clientele. This affords the jeweler and their clients the opportunity to incorporate changes into the final design before manufacturing of the actual jewelry piece. This process streamlines the custom design procedure and makes it easier for the jeweler to provide clients exactly what they are looking for. The custom design of jewelry is experiencing a renaissance at the moment and this added service by 3dbull.com is appreciated by the jewelry trade.
